The Early Beginnings | | | | |

It was in early 1936 that the Colonial residents of the island, formed a club to fulfill the pressing need of a "family" meeting place. Clubs were generally a place of fellowshipo, for adults (and moreover a male populated domain). The Swimming Club brought a refreshing change & tone to the whole Club-concept. The initial meeting place was the Galle Face Hotel where Sir John Terbert very kindly offered the members the use of the salt-water pool, and a venue for the meetings. it was then called the COLOMBO AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB. |

In 1938, "Storm Lodge" was purchased at a cost of Rs.55,000/- and a swimming pool was constructed by Walker & Sons Ltd. Early, the following year, the then Governor of Ceylon Sir Andrew Caldecott declared it open, a big gala celebration followed with the changing rooms built shortly afterwards - the Club was a place to bring your family to relax & mingle with others. Good food, excellent service, warm & friendly atmosphere, impeccable standards. | | |

The All Ceylon Diving Competition was held at the CSC because the only 5 meter diving board was available here. The Club takes great pride in their claim that David Wilkie, gold medalist of the Montreal Olympic Games, learnt to swim at the CSC pool. | | |

In the years the followed, the very discerning membership opened their doors to the locals as well, and today enjoy a very cosmopolitan society of members - who conitnue the age old traditions. | | |

To meet the demands of today's businessman/executive - the Club provides an excellent businessman's luncheon spread... and permits members to entertain their guests to a sumptuous meal. Club nights, specialty events such as 31st night, Valentine's, Halloween, are some of occasions celebrated in full swing... an occasional Rhythm & Blues OR Rock Night draws in vast crowds & the whole place takes on a carnival atmosphere. | | |
